Program Overview and Objectives:
This one-year advanced certificate program in Microbiology and Serology is designed with the following key objectives:
- To provide a comprehensive overview of workflow management in advanced Microbiology and Serology diagnostic laboratories.
- To offer hands-on experience with sophisticated diagnostic modalities in specialized disciplines.
- To enhance the employability of qualified technologists through focused, industry-relevant training.
Expected Competencies Upon Completion of Course:
Candidates of this course will be equipped to:
- Understand and manage Microbiology and Serology laboratory workflows.
- Evaluate samples based on acceptance criteria for testing.
- Process samples according to the protocols of specialized diagnostic areas.
- Operate diagnostic analysers and perform required tests.
- Troubleshoot issues encountered during testing procedures.
- Interpret test results and identify abnormal or critical values requiring further attention.
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Quality Control (QC) processes, including outlier handling and acceptance criteria.
- Understand accreditation standards (ISO:15189) and the implementation of a quality management system.
- Properly handle and dispose of samples post-retention period.
- Maintain laboratory safety protocols.
- Manage inventory efficiently.
- Bio Medical Waste Management.
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications:
- M.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology
- M.Sc. in Microbiology, Medical Microbiology, Biotechnology, or allied fields
Course Duration: 1 Year
Course Structure:
Specialized Training (12 Months)
Advanced hands-on training in the chosen discipline. Available specializations include:
- Basic and Advanced Microbiology (Film Array, MALDI, Mycobacteriology, Mycology etc.) - (3 Months)
- Molecular Diagnostics (PCR/GeneXpert/Biofire) - (3 Months)
- Serology, Immunoassays, and Immunofluorescence - (3 Months)
Selection Process:
- Interview of shortlisted candidates
- In case of a high number of applicants, a written test followed by an interview.
Theory Sessions:
- 6 sessions per week (30 minutes each)
- Topics will include both general subjects like Quality and Safety, as well as discipline-specific technical topics.
- Regular internal assessments will be conducted (Quarterly)
Certification Requirements:
- Minimum 80% attendance
- Successful completion of final assessment (written exam, practical, and viva)
