Program Overview and Objectives:

This one-year advanced certificate program is designed to provide comprehensive practical training in Histopathology, with a focus on Immunofluorescence and Immunohistochemistry techniques. The course aims to:

  • Equip medical laboratory technologists with hands-on experience in specialized histopathological procedures.
  • Enhance employability by providing focused, industry-relevant skills

Expected Competencies Upon Completion of Course:

By the end of the program, trainees will be able to:

  • Understand the general workflow of a NABL Accredited clinical laboratory
  • Manage to Assess sample quality and determine acceptance for testing
  • Process samples using techniques specific to histopathology and cytopathology following standard operating procedure
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment used in routine and advanced histopathology procedures
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during testing
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Quality Control (QC) practices and outlier management
  • Understand accreditation standards (ISO:15189) and implement a Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Handle and dispose of specimen’s post-retention period responsibly
  • Adhere to laboratory safety protocols
  • Manage inventory effectively
  • Bio Medical Waste Management

Eligibility Criteria:

  • M.Sc. Biotechnology
  • DMLT/BMLT/MLT
  • B.Tech Biotechnology
  • PhD in relevant field

Course Duration: One Year (Full-Time)

Course Structure:

Part A - Foundation Module (1 Month)

A comprehensive overview of general laboratory workflow and routine testing (common to all candidates).

Part B - Advanced Training in Histopathology and Cytopathology (11 Months)

Graded exposure to key areas such as:

  • Sample accessioning (Histopathology & Cytopathology)
  • Cytology smear preparation
  • Grossing techniques
  • Tissue processing and paraffin embedding
  • Microtomy
  • Routine and special staining procedures
  • Digital microscopy
  • Frozen section preparation
  • Immunofluorescence techniques
  • Immunohistochemical staining
  • Post-test specimen management
  • Quality control practices

Selection Process:

  • Interview of shortlisted candidates
  • IIf the number of applicants exceeds available seats, a written examination followed by interview will be conducted
  • Theory Sessions:

    • 6 sessions per week (30 minutes each)
    • Covers general topics like Quality and Safety, as well as subject-specific technical discussions
    • Includes periodic internal assessments (Quarterly)

    Certificate Award Criteria:

    • Minimum 80% attendance is required
    • Final assessment will include a combination of theory, practical, and viva
